Chris von Christierson

Chris von Christierson, BCom (Rhodes), MA (Cantab), Honorary Fellow of Magdalene College, Cambridge, spent 40 years in the exploration and mining industry. Having served on the boards of several companies in South Africa and internationally, including twelve years as a Director of Gold Fields Limited, he is currently involved in the development of a non-toxic process to extract metals from ores without smelting, with significant savings in energy and benefit to the environment. He is Chairman of the Watch Hill Foundation, a UK registered charity primarily associated with Africa, involved in education, protection of the environment and the arts.

In 2005 he established the Mandela Magdalene Scholarships to Cambridge University; he is a founder of the Robberg Coastal Corridor Protected Environment on the Western Cape coast of South Africa, and he has assembled an extensive collection of Afro-Cuban art. Although resident in the UK, he spends time in South Africa each year where he has a home.
